This large requiem shark (family Carcharhinidae) is dangerous because it lives in rivers and shorelines close to people. The bull shark has been positively identified in bites and human deaths in South Africa and South America. Investigators suspect that the bull shark (Carcharias leucas), not the great white (Carcharodon carcharias) poses the greatest threat to humans.
